This Friday, November 10th is a holiday and there will be NO SCHOOL for students.
Please remember that every Friday in Ms. Hicks class, students will take a short reading quiz (based on the book they read for homework). In Ms. Alarcon and Ms. Chavez math class, students will also take a quiz every Friday. Next week, the quiz will be on Thursday, since there is no school Friday. The book fair will continue until next Thursday, November 9th. Students will go to the book fair during specials. Ms. Hicks Homeroom class will go Monday, November 6th. Ms. Alarcon Homeroom class will go Tuesday, November 7th. Ms. Chavez class will go Wednesday, November 8th. Ms. Kern's class will go Thursday, November 9th. The last day to Vote YES for School Bonds is Tuesday. Please see the website: http://www.voteyesforbonds.com/ to see where you can vote to support our school!! Important Dates:
This Wednesday, October 18th, will be an early release day for ALL students. Students will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m. Students will still eat lunch at school -- They can buy lunch or bring their lunch as normal. Please do not forget to write a note if your child has a transportation change!!!! This Thursday, October 19th is picture day for 3rd grade students. If you would like to order school pictures, you need to return your picture form by Thursday morning. Your child should have received a picture order form in their Tuesday folder last week. The Invest in your Child Fall Fundraiser continues this week. Please participate if you are able! School-wide dates:
The Media Center is having a Fall contest for students. Students can submit a picture, poem or short story in English or Spanish about Fall. The winning student will receive a prize from the Book Fair! The last day to bring in Box Tops is this Friday, October 13th. Classroom dates: This Wednesday students will take the Cycle 1 Assessment in English. This assessment is a formal grade and will cover material from our first unit about Character (traits, feelings, actions, etc.) and Plot (events in a story). Have your child eat a great breakfast the morning of the test! This week we continue to collect Box Tops for our fundraiser. Please make sure your child gives their Box Tops to their homeroom teacher.
After School clubs have also started at Collinswood. If your child participates in any clubs, please have them tell their homeroom teacher so that we can make a note on our dismissal roster. Progress reports went home on Friday. Please SIGN and RETURN your child's progress report by Wednesday of this week. This week in English literacy, students will be focusing on describing character traits and how a character changes throughout the story. Students will be thinking critically about the character's feelings, actions, saying and thoughts while they read in class. In science we will be starting a new unit all about Matter. Stay tuned for helpful videos later in the week! Thank you for all of your support! The 3rd grade team Curriculum Night will be tomorrow in the third grade classrooms from 5:30 -7pm. There will be one session from 5:30 to 6:10 and a second session from 6:20 to 7pm. Please plan to attend only ONE of these two sessions.
We will send home Powerschool login information tomorrow in Tuesday folders. You may bring this information to curriculum night if you have questions about it. Students will participate in a Fire Safety training class tomorrow during school. The S.O.L celebration will take place on Friday at 2 pm in the cafeteria. Encourage your student to wear their SOL shirt to show support for our school! All students will take the MAP Reading and Math tests this Tuesday (9/19) and Wednesday (9/20)/. Please make sure your children arrive to school on time and with a healthy breakfast!
Girls on the Run begins this week on Tuesday, September 19th. Please make sure your child packs appropriate clothing and shoes to change after school. Practice will go from 4:30-5:30 at Collinswood. There will be NO SCHOOL for students this Thursday (9/21) or Friday (9/22). Have a great long weekend!!! Please encourage your child to keep reading in Spanish and English! All third grade students will take the Beginning of Grade test in reading on Wednesday, September 13th. Students will take the test in their homeroom class. The test will last about three hours, so it is important that they eat a healthy breakfast and get a good night sleep on Tuesday! Please reach out to Ms. Kern or Ms. Hicks if you have any questions about the test.
Students will also take the MAP Reading and Math tests the following week, on September 19th (reading) and September 20th (Math). August 24th, 2017 - Open House 3-5 pm
